A Look at Contemporary American Art – American Artists Special

When you think of American art or artists, what or who comes to mind? August is American Artist Appreciation Month, a great time to discover new American-born or based artists.

After World War II, the European countries, which had previously boasted global influence, were unable to retain their power, and the United States rose to the occasion. This was true not only in politics and finance, but also in the arts, where American culture was promoted and exported more than ever before. In particular, artistic movements such as Pop and Minimalism had a profound impact on the future of contemporary art.

Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Donald Judd, Frank Stella …… It is easy to name them all. It is thanks to them that we are able to enjoy art as we know it today. The political image of the United States may not be as noble to us non-Americans, and it may not be as great as our current president would like it to be.

But fortunately, worldly affairs have nothing to do with our enjoyment of artistic creativity. Let us embark on a happy voyage of escape from reality with the glorious art from the land of hopes and dreams.
